Concept Maps for Revision is intended to sketch course key concepts. The process enables the organisation and representation of information to improve knowledge acquisition and understanding of key concepts and their relationships in a course. The mapping offers an alternative way of providing student revision.
The Start where they are activity engages and motivates students by using popular culture artefacts. The artefacts are selected and connected to information and knowledge from a course. This activity provides examples and tips on finding and using resources.
Learning Catalytics (LC) gives students the opportunity to articulate their thinking, listen to contrary views and move to deeper conceptual understanding. It develops problem solving skills and long term retention.
The IT Skills Focus activity encourages students to improve their own and other’s understanding and retention of learning. It could take place within a computer lab or tutorial to observe sequence, for example: designing, analysis, laboratory processes, and medical diagnosis.
The Weekly Expert Broadcast allows students to discover the forthcoming weekly topic. It gives them an opportunity to consider one challenging concept or illuminating example for the forthcoming week.
Facebook page as a broadcast channel provides first year students, in a core course, with the opportunity to identify theory in action and induct them into the digital landscape of their chosen field, guiding them around key websites, publications and experts through social curation.
Discussion Structure: Fishbowl activity divides students into two teams to discuss, observe and collect evidence of an argument. It requires groups to be able to sit physically in concentric circles.
