Mobile learning is the ability to obtain or provide educational content on personal pocket devices such as PDAs, smartphones and mobilephones. Educational content refers to digital learning assets which includes any form of content or media made available on a personal device.
Lecturer Audio Explanation provides students with the opportunity to recall and reflect on underlying course concepts. This activity enables staff to exhibit good practice (refer to Resources/Technology) to support student learning. Additionally, valuable apps: ShowMe, VideoScribe, Narrable, Moovlycan or Powtoon (refer to Technology/Resources) are available for mobile devices, such as ipads or iphones, to explain underlying or difficult concepts.
The Online polling using mobile devices activity enables students to contribute feedback directly to each other and to the lecturer about their combined understanding of a particular concept either synchronously in class or during a webinar or asynchronously as they study in their own time.
Using Blackboard Mobile Learn for Diagnostic Testing measures student understanding of concepts in a course. It allows for the identification of strengths, weaknesses, and misconceptions in student knowledge and skill.
Using Blackboard Mobile Learn for End of Workshop Review Questions is deployed to review learning at the close of a
workshop or workshop series.
Using Blackboard Mobile Learn for End of Module Review Questions allows students to assess their progress in relation to specific content and set goals for learning toward final assessments and course completion.
Online testing with Blackboard Mobile Learn - Formative Assessment is deployed to reinforce student learning process using a mobile device (smart phone, tablet etc). This activity is designed to modify teaching and learning activities.
The Weekly Expert Broadcast allows students to discover the forthcoming weekly topic. It gives them an opportunity to consider one challenging concept or illuminating example for the forthcoming week.
Build an app, build a connection encourages students to engage with each other and teaching staff through the creation of a simple mobile applications that can be shared. This can be either an icebreaker activity in a tutorial or the introduction to flipping a classroom. It can lead to deeper discussions and investigations across a wide variety of topics.
