Pre-lecture

1. Decide on key concepts and questions.
2. Set-up the key questions – possibly as single question quizzes in the Bb or using forums (as long as they permit real-time response). This can also be done online through Today’s Meet, Socrative or Poll Everywhere.
3. Details and links can be provided in the lecture presentation in the Bb or on screen:
   • If using Twitter, pre-prepare the Twitter hashtag and have a scrolling search window ready to be displayed in the lecture theatre.
   • If required or necessary because of application limitations you can set up student groups, each having a unique URL. With very large numbers, consider splitting the groups using a system where students self-select, such as the first letters of surnames.
4. Post the question in the chosen application.

In a one-hour lecture session, Fast Feedback can be donetwo or three times to enable students to reflect on the presented content:

5. Ask students to open the appropriate app and ask questions related to the concept.
6. Display their feedback to enable further explanations and clarification of concepts.
7. Allow students to reflect, take notes and/or blog after the session.

EXTENSION: Special note for ISYS 2056
In Week 5 of the course, students are asked to build a simple smart phone app to which other students can subscribe; they could use Altova. During a lecture, a question can be pushed out to subscribers which they can respond to. Students could use the system to get help on concepts they did not understand during a lecture. The app can also be used as a dedicated one to one messaging system between two students.
