Online Collaboration

Backchannel happens during lecture or tutorial sessions. Backchannel intends to encourage students to collaboratively learn by jointly authoring notes and sharing comments in real-time. 

Peer Motivation Through Content Curation encourages students to find and analyse information, organize it, share it with each other. Students learn from each other through social interaction around content. The curation can be viewed via a browser or a mobile app and alerts of new content are made via email.

Sharing the load enables students to apply and construct collective and collaborative note taking and summaries.  Joint note taking and summaries allows students to demonstrate their understanding of the topic or concept in a personal and meaningful way.

Check Your Impact intends to encourage students, individually or in groups, to participate in authentic learning activities to establish their impact on the world through globalisation and sustainability.

Tutorial Lesson Plans are guides for educators to what students have to learn and how; using appropriate learning activities and strategies to obtain feedback of student learning (Milkova, 2015). With online tools it becomes easy to share these plans in a shared space, and even exchange feedback after the tutorials.

Rules of Engagement activity intends to develop student responsibility of organising group work and living up to their responsibilities to the group. This is achieved by having the team members define roles and responsibilities (rules of engagement). The most appropriate tool for this activity is a Google Doc although a course wiki may also be used.

Concept Chat is intended to identify and discuss course key concepts. Students in small groups, using synchronous messaging systems: such as Twitter, Nurph or Today’s Meet, summarise the key concepts that have been covered during the lecture.
