Week 1 Kick-off Quiz

The Week 1 Kick-off Quiz intends to encourage students to read the course guide and clearly understand the expectations and assessment. The quiz will enable students to locate course information and help reduce student stress and emails to the lecturer.

Rationale

This activity gives students the opportunity to clarify course information and find additional information and resources.

Learners/Context

The quiz has been created for undergraduate students in their first week of any semester and, for students who partake in heavy theory classes and may have complex assignment components.

The quiz consists of 10-15 questions. The Google form you create should be set to anonymous.

Alignment

Test knowledge of Course Guide (Part B) information to be available prior to commencement of the course to ensure understanding of course topics and course requirements.

Instructions/Processes

Prior to semester:

In Google form create/adjust the quiz
Develop/adjust the true/false questions
Embed the URL of the quiz into Blackboard using announcements
Notify students to bring a laptop or mobile device to participate in the quiz.

At beginning of class:

Open Blackboard and direct students to the link
Ask students to undertake the quiz by clicking the link and submitting a response.

Submitted responses:

Display analytical overview
Based on responses determine where the gaps are
Recap course guide, assessment and student expectations
Answer any student questions.

Conditions/Critical Success Factors

Knowledge of Google forms (see Resources/Technology).
Students to have mobile devices available to respond in class.
