Answering Case Studies Creatively December 2015
Answering Case Studies Creatively requires students to respond to a brief case study by developing a comic strip, created via a paper based template or free online software.
Rationale This learning activity gives students the opportunity to enrich and enhance their learning and to illustrate the application of key concepts through use of comic strips.
Learners/Context Suitable for large or small classes.
Alignment Provides students with an opportunity apply theory and key concepts through storytelling in a simulated environment.
Instructions/Processes Prior to class:
Develop / select a case study and decide on the main concepts that students will need to address through a comic strip.
Post an announcement on Blackboard regarding the activity and also a link to the case study material and comic strip maker software or a paper-based comic strip template (see Resources/Technology) Note: If students are using comic strip maker software, you will need to advise them that when they have finished creating their comic strips they need to print them out and then save them as a PDF document.
Students should bring their comic strips to class for discussion.
In class:
Explain to students about visual storytelling through the medium of comic strips to convey the main concept in the case study. You may choose to share a comic strip that you have created yourself as an example / lead-in to the group discussion activity.
Ask students to get into groups of 4 to share and discuss their comic strips and how they interpreted the case study.
Conditions/Critical Success Factors Access to comic strip maker software or print out template.
