Drag and Drop Quizzes

A Drag and Drop Quiz intends to encourage students to identify, match and recall main concepts in a course. Drag and drop quizzes can be offered as a variation to multiple choice or true/false questions.

Rationale

A Drag and Drop Quiz engages students to recognise and reproduce main concepts in a course.

Learners/Context

A Drag and Drop Quiz is created to develop student’s visual and kinaesthetic modes of learning. This individual, interactive and formative activity is typically included in the Blackboard (Bb). The Drop and Drag Quiz can be developed using free software, for example dragster (refer to Resources/Technology) or in Flash, Captivate or H5P which will require the assistance of a Multimedia Production specialist.

Alignment

This activity examines a student’s ability to identify, match and recall main concepts in a course.

Instructions/Processes

Prior to the beginning of semester:

Identify and decide on the main concepts
Match the main concepts and add some mismatched concepts to the list of words
Develop the quiz and consider the following points:

Numbers of shapes or words to be dragged
Number of targets
Number of incorrect items (if any)
Number of attempts allowed
Time limits (if any)
Scoring of the results

Develop instructions for students, for example:

Drag the image/text to the correct boxes
Any one box may contain one or more item
Some items do not belong in either box
Press the submit button once you have completed the quiz and the items have been placed in their correct boxes

Test the quiz for usability
Upload into Blackboard or into a remote website

In class:

Open Blackboard and direct students to the link
Ask students to undertake the Quiz by clicking the link and

submitting a response

Submitted responses:

Display the analytical overview
Based on responses determine where the learning gaps are
Recap the main concepts
Answer any student questions
