Site induction card

Access to a building site is controlled by a permit/qualification system which requires every person entering the site to hold a site induction card. The card is issued after a minimum of five hours of site specific OHS training. This is the standard minimum qualification that all building personnel are required to have when working in the building industry. This system was introduced to help to curb the high number of accidents in the construction industry.

The reverse side has the statement: 'This course was designed to meet elements from the National Building and Construction Industry Competency Standards'.

The permit varies between the different states. For example, in Victoria the 'Red Card' is the current site induction card (valid since 2004) although cards issued prior to this date were in a variety of colours. However all of these are still valid. In NSW the site induction card is called the 'White Card'.

Interstate cards are generally not interchangeable between states at this time. The federal government is proposing a National Construction Industry Card to cover all states sometime in the future.
