However, the popularity and use of social media platforms demonstrate how online environments can be effective in drawing people in, networking, and sharing ideas and information.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Regardless of whether you are presenting face-to-face or through Canvas, the key is commu<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nication.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0V<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ideo presentations (e.g.,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">TedTalks<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Linkedin<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0tutorials, etc.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, podcast series,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">or<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">commentary and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">articles<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0with the widest reach<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0tell stories that are easy to follow<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, using plain English that make them accessible to a large\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">audience and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0convey why their topic is important and relevant to the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">viewer\/listener.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Having a strong narrative\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for your course topics with clear instructions of what to do and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0how it will apply to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">future\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">assessment or workplace success<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">will give reason and motivation to your students.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Unlike<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">face-to-face classrooms<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0where<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0teachers can\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">get a sense of whether their students are<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">interested, bored, or confused<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">looking\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">around the room<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and making\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">immediate\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">adjustments to their delivery<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, this\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">much more difficult\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to do\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in an online setting.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">H<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">aving multiple points for students to engage and discuss the content\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">can address th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">issue. Ask students questions during an online session, break them up into smaller groups to talk about what is being covered,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">have learning activities for them to practice and drop-in sessions for targeted questions, encourage them to contact you directly if t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hey\u2019re struggling, get them to organise their own online study groups, and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">set-up discussion forums on the topics for students to post, comment, and question<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This is i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">line\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">with how\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">flexible delivery promotes the use of different types\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of learning materials<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">offers\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">great<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">er<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0freedom\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">when students access content<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For teachers not wholly comfortable with online platforms themselves, this is a great opportunity to learn from your student<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s to discover what works, what doesn\u2019t, and how to improve your\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">delivery<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">G<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">et their feedback\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">on<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">how\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the different\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Canvas and Collaborate Ultra\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tools<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and features are being used<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As it can be hard to openly critique someone else\u2019s work, ask student<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to do a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0self-assess<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ment<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">their<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0own<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0participation and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">how<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0they\u2019re<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">interacting with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0course<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This can provide insight into you<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">r students, what they\u2019re comfortable with, their workloads,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0any<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">accessibility\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">concerns, etc. By\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">welcoming<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0students to have their\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">say and integrating their feedback<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, you are fostering engagement and collaboratio<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n.
