We could follow up this factory worker example with a real flow rate problem. e.g. An IV infusion is set to 30 drops per minute. The drops are macrodrops (20 drops per ml).

  1. How many drops go by in 1 minute?
    How about in 10 minutes?
  2. How many mls go by in 1 minute?
    How about in 10 minutes?
  3. How long does it take to deliver 9000 drops?
    minutes.
  4. How long does it take to deliver 150 ml?
    minutes.
  5. How many drops are delivered between 3:00 and 3:20?
  6. How many mls are delivered in that time?

Answer:

  • 30 drops in 1 minute
  • 300 drops 10 minutes

How many mls go by in 1 minute? How about in 10 minutes?

Answer:

  • 1.5 mls in 1 minute
  • 15 mls in 10 minutes

How long does it take to deliver 9000 drops? minutes.

Answer: 300 minutes

How long does it take to deliver 150 ml? minutes.

Answer: 100 minutes

How many drops are delivered between 3:00 and 3:20?

Answer: 600 minutes

How many mls are delivered in that time?

Answer: 30
