Following is a list of some of the tasks that need to be completed in the internal fittings stage of a residential construction. They are shown in a diagram known as a 'network diagram' which illustrates the sequencing of these tasks. The task on the left is the first to be completed, followed by the next task to the right and so on.

Circles from 1 to 7 are shown where 1 represents the start of the process. Arrows connect the circles in a straight line and are labelled with sequenced tasks as follows: plastering, wall and floor tiling, electrical fit-off, plumbing fit-off, painting, floor finishing.

However, this is not the most efficient way to do these jobs. The next diagram shows that the plumbing and electrical fit-offs can be done at the same time. This has the advantage of saving total job time and therefore saving money.  Note that all the electrical work needs to be finished before painting starts but the plumbing needs to be completed prior to the floor finishing job.

This is a modified form of the first image. Plumbing fit-off is shown as an activity which is concurrent to electrical fit-off and painting. This is displayed by adding another arrow to display a task being done at the same time. This arrow then connects to the main sequence after plumbing is completed.
